Mr. Rajesh Prasad
Former Director of Operations, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL)
Mr. Rajesh Prasad, a distinguished Civil Engineering graduate from IIT Kanpur (1983-87) and a 1988 batch member of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), recently retired after serving as the Director of Operations at Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) since March 3, 2020. Over the course of his career, Mr. Prasad demonstrated an impressive track record in government administration, specializing in procurement, engineering, feasibility studies, project execution, and rail transport.
During his tenure, he managed several fast-track turnkey projects, including the construction of three workshops, a cable-stayed bridge, and a metro project in Kolkata, successfully navigating complex construction challenges. His expertise extends to the execution of projects like tunnel construction in the Saranga forest and building a rail bridge over the Bhagirathi River (Ganges). Mr. Prasad pioneered live monitoring systems to assess the health of a cable-stayed bridge—an innovation in Indian Railways—and introduced a unique monitoring approach for ensuring the safety of running lines during tunnel construction using controlled blasting for a third-line project, the first of its kind in the country.
Among his notable achievements, he developed a fast-track model for launching a cable-stayed bridge with geometry control through the Lusas model and contributed to the feasibility studies for the high-speed corridor between Kolkata and New Delhi. His legacy reflects innovation, efficiency, and a commitment to enhancing rail infrastructure in India.
