New Delhi, India, 7th November 2022: Afcons Infrastructure Ltd. has been conferred with "Excellence in Rail & Metro Projects Execution" Award in ‘EPC & Construction’ category at the 2nd Urban Infra Business Summit & Awards 2022 held on 7th November 2022 at India International Centre, New Delhi.
The award was given at a grand ceremony - 2nd Urban Infra Business Summit & Awards 2022 hosted by Urban Infra Group on 7th November 2022 at India International Center, New Delhi, India. The award ceremony was attended by dignitaries from the nodal ministries, government departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs), and industry leaders from the leading multi-national companies (MNCs)
engaged in developing major urban infrastructure in India.
Afcons Infrastructure Ltd began its Metro journey in the 1980s. The company has built over 170 kms of Metro network, and more than 70 elevated and underground stations in eight Indian cities since.
Apart from Kanpur and Nagpur, Afcons has its presence in Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. In 2017, Afcons made history by completing India’s first underwater Metro tunnels for Kolkata Metro under River Hooghly in just 67 days.
It is the first Indian company to construct an underground Metro station without a foreign JV, at Barakhamba, in New Delhi. With Chennai Central Metro Station, Afcons built one of Asia’s biggest underground interchange Metro stations. At present, the company is building India’s deepest underground Metro station (30m below ground level) at Hooghly. Completing several technically-challenging projects on or ahead of schedule is possible because of the company’s drive to reinvent its operational methods with each project. A key player in underground Metro tunnelling in India, Afcons owns a strong fleet of 10 state-of-the-art Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs).
In Reach 3 of Nagpur Metro, Afcons has constructed 11 kms of viaduct from Jhansi Rani Square to Lokmanya Nagar in a record time of 28 months. The Sitabuldi Station that serves as an interchange allowing passengers to transfer between Orange and Blue lines was made operational for both corridors in just 20 months. During this period, 370 spans were launched, with a record peak progress of 30 spans in a month. A total of 3,456 segments were cast, which is a rare feat in any Metro job in the country. At present, Afcons is constructing Indiaʼs longest Metro double-decker viaduct (5.3 kms) at Reach-2, and at one of its intersections, there will be a four-layer multi-modal transport system which is the only such structure in the country. This structure was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records this year.
Afcons built the Priority Corridor between IIT & Motijheel of Phase-1 of Kanpur Metro Project in just 22-and-a-half months The 9.6-km Priority Corridor, which spans between IIT-Kanpur and Motijheel, is the one of the most critical sections of Phase-1 of Kanpur Metro Project. Afcons has built the viaduct and nine elevated stations along the corridor in record time of 22-and-a-half months, making this one of India’s fastest-executed Metro Rail projects.
The Urban Infra Business Leadership Awards are given to corporate and individual leaders in recognition and honor for their extraordinary contribution to developing major infrastructure projects in India through their innovative ideas, products, and services. A total of 41 (9 individuals and 32 corporate) were felicitated with the 2nd Urban Infra Business Leadership awards.
