New Delhi, India (17th October 2024): Shri Anuj Malhotra, General Manager (Planning & Urban Development) at Srinagar Smart City Limited, was honored with the title of "Most Innovative Urban Infra Architect of the Year" on October 16, 2024, during the 4th Urban Infra Business Leadership Awards. The ceremony took place at the Hyatt Centric in New Delhi, as part of the 4th Urban Infra Business Summit & RailTrans Expo 2024, held from October 15 - 16, 2024.
The award was presented by Prof. Manoj Choudhary, Vice Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Ministry of Railways, in the presence of distinguished leaders from government departments, central public sector undertakings, and the private sector.
A Leader in Sustainable Urban Development
Shri Anuj Malhotra received this prestigious recognition for his exceptional leadership and contributions to developing sustainable urban infrastructure in Jammu & Kashmir, particularly through his work with Srinagar Smart City Limited. A technocrat and landscape architect, Malhotra has extensive experience in urban transport and design, bridging the gap between the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
In his current role, Malhotra has spearheaded transformational projects in Srinagar, focusing on socio-cultural healing and urban revitalization. Key initiatives include the redevelopment of Lal Chowk, Polo View, and the Riverfront, all of which aim to enhance the city’s livability and cultural significance. As General Manager of Planning, he oversees urban transport and development projects valued at approximately ₹1,000 crores, which have garnered multiple accolades, including the prestigious UMI Award 2023 for the City with the Best Transport System.
A Proven Track Record of Innovation
Before his tenure at Srinagar Smart City, Malhotra served as a knowledge partner to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), where he played a vital role in the pedestrianization of the Ajmal Khan, Karol Bagh project, which also won the UMI Award in 2019. Additionally, he co-founded and served as CEO of the Centre for Green Mobility (CGM), an award-winning non-profit organization focused on urban design and transport solutions. His work earned him the Volvo Award for implementing 25 kilometers of cycle tracks in Diu.
Malhotra's expertise extends to advising the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and various municipal corporations across India. He was instrumental in creating the first greenway in the country in Bhuj while collaborating with Hunnar Shaala in 2002.
