Sushil Kumar honored as "Urban Infra Metro Man of the Year" at 4th Urban Infra Business Leadership Awards 2024

New Delhi, India (17th October 2024): On October 16, 2024, Shri Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), was awarded the prestigious title of "Urban Infra Metro Man of the Year" at the 4th Urban Infra Business Leadership Awards. The ceremony took place at the Hyatt Centric in New Delhi during the 4th Urban Infra Business Summit & RailTrans Expo 2024, where prominent leaders from various sectors gathered to celebrate contributions to urban infrastructure.

The award was presented by Prof. Manoj Choudhary, Vice Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, under the Ministry of Railways, in the presence of esteemed officials from government departments, central public sector undertakings, and private enterprises.

Recognition for Sustainable Metro Development

Shri Sushil Kumar received this honor for his exceptional work in advancing sustainable and green mass rapid transit systems within Uttar Pradesh. Since taking on the role of Managing Director in July 2022, he has been pivotal in driving initiatives that prioritize eco-friendly solutions in urban transit.

Before his elevation, Kumar served as Director (Operations) at UPMRC, and he began his career in the metro sector as Chief Electrical Engineer/General Manager (Operations) with the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation in 2015. Under his leadership, the priority corridor of the Agra Metro was successfully delivered in a record time by March 2024, showcasing his commitment to efficiency and innovation in infrastructure development.

A Leader with Extensive Experience

Shri Kumar is a member of the 1991 batch of the Indian Railways Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE) and holds a B.Tech from IIT Roorkee and an M.Tech from IIT Delhi. He also completed an Advanced Management Program at INSEAD, Singapore, in 2011. His career includes significant roles at the Ministry of Railways, where he contributed to various energy conservation and planning committees, and as Additional General Manager at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

With extensive experience in project management, design specifications, and operations within the Indian Railways and urban transit systems, Kumar has worked on multiple international metro projects across cities like Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong, Paris, and Vienna. His achievements have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the "National Award for Outstanding Service" from the Hon'ble Minister of Railways in 2012.

The Urban Infra Business Leadership Awards, organized annually by Urban Infra Group in collaboration with leading industries and media houses, aim to honor individuals and corporations for their outstanding contributions to major infrastructure projects in India.
