Dr. Richa Chowdhary is a distinguished academician and Professor of Social Work, bringing over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and social work practice. She holds a PhD and MSW from Lucknow University and a B.A. (Hons.) in Sociology from Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Throughout her career, Dr. Chowdhary has served as a Research Officer at the Delhi School of Social Work and progressed through various academic roles at her current institution, achieving the rank of Professor in 2018.
Her professional journey is marked by numerous administrative responsibilities, including roles such as Staff Association President, Course Coordinator for IGNOU's Social Work program, and Teacher-in-Charge of the Social Work Department. Dr. Chowdhary has been actively involved in organizing seminars, rural camps, and workshops, reflecting her dedication to both academic excellence and practical engagement in social issues.
Dr. Chowdhary has supervised numerous MSW dissertations, M.Phil. theses, and Ph.D. research, contributing to the development of future social work professionals. Her prolific academic output includes the authorship of 9 books, 15 book chapters, and over 60 research papers published in reputed peer-reviewed journals, including those indexed in Scopus. She has also presented more than 75 papers at national and international conferences.
Her contributions to the field have earned her several prestigious awards, including the Global Excellent Teachers Award, Excellent Teacher Award in Social Work, and recognition for her social contributions. In addition, Dr. Chowdhary has led major research projects on issues such as drug abuse among women and the evaluation of NGOs.
Dr. Richa Chowdhary has made significant contributions to the field of social work through her involvement in major research projects funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Her research on Drug Abuse Among Women and her extensive work evaluating NGOs have provided valuable insights into the social challenges faced by vulnerable groups. Her expertise extends to the design and delivery of e-content for social work education, having developed modules for UGC’s E-PG Pathshala, covering topics such as human resource development, leadership, and community engagement. Her commitment to education and social work has made her a respected figure in academia.
Beyond her academic roles, Dr. Chowdhary is deeply involved in professional and community activities. She serves as a Board Member at Delhi University’s Board of Research Studies, an Editorial Board Member for multiple social work journals, and a Consultant for various NGOs focused on women’s empowerment, education, and healthcare. She is a Life Member of the National Association of Professional Social Workers in India (NAPSWI) and has provided consultancy to numerous organizations for their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
