Dr. Sujeet Mishra, currently serving as the Senior Professor (Capacity Building) at the Indian Railways Institute of Transport Management (IRITM), has distinguished himself in the field of Electrical Engineering as a seasoned designer, innovator, and leader. With a profound impact on locomotive design, traction power design, standard and regulation formulation, and knowledge management, Dr. Mishra has been a driving force in various key initiatives within the Indian Railways.
His instrumental role in the transfer of technology for three-phase electric locomotives, indigenisation, serial production, and the establishment of an indigenous vendor base underscores his commitment to fostering innovation and self-reliance in the railway sector. Dr. Mishra's leadership has been pivotal in the development of two new classes of electric locomotives, namely WAP-7 and WAG-9H, from conceptualization to serial production.
A trailblazer in the adoption of open control standards in traction in India, Dr. Mishra has significantly influenced the specifications of motive power control and communications. His work in traction power distribution has led to the rationalization of specifications for switchgear, transformers, protection relays, and SCADA systems. His contributions to failure investigations have prompted major design changes in overhead structures and protection designs for traction power distribution in India.
Dr. Mishra has played a key role in the establishment of a framework for national standards, endorsed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), for the introduction of environmentally benign insulation fluids with high-temperature tolerance in India. Actively engaging with prominent organizations such as IEEE-SA, BIS, and ISGF, he currently holds the position of Chief Design Engineer for Electric Locomotives at Banaras Locomotive Works in Varanasi. The unit, in alignment with the policy to electrify the complete railway network, has initiated the production of electric locomotives under his guidance.
Dr. Mishra holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from IIT (BHU), Varanasi. His rich professional journey includes various significant postings such as OSD/National Rail & Transportation Institute, Chief Design Engineer (Electric Locomotives) at Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi, Director (Propulsion, Traction/OHE) at Project Management Unit of Special Railway Establishment for Strategic Technology & Holistic Advancement (SRESTHA)/RDSO, and Director Computers at Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO), Ministry of Railways, among others. His diverse experience encompasses roles in coaching, power supply installations, and research and development, reflecting his versatility and expertise in the field of railway engineering.
