Dr. Vivek Vaidyanathan

Dr. Vivek Vaidyanathan, Ph.D., is a distinguished Urban Transport Policy Specialist serving as a Research Scientist at the Center for Study of Science, Technology & Policy (CSTEP) in Bengaluru, India. Holding a Ph.D. in Urban Transport from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Netherlands, he brings a wealth of expertise to the field.

Dr. Vaidyanathan's academic journey includes an M.A. in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai, and a Bachelor in Management Studies from Mumbai University. His professional trajectory commenced in 2005 as a Project Coordinator with Bombay Environmental Action Group (BEAG)/Conservation Action Trust (CAT) in Mumbai. Subsequently, he served as a Research Associate at IT for Change (ITfC), Bengaluru, for two years. Dr. Vaidyanathan further contributed to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs through a UNDP study report on urban transportation in collaboration with EMBARQ India in Mumbai and Bangalore.

As a Domain Lead for Urban Transport at CSTEP, he spearheads multi-disciplinary projects in urban innovation, covering areas such as electric mobility, solid-waste management, sanitation, and governance. His role involves direct collaboration with state and central governments, influencing policy decisions in various domains.

Dr. Vaidyanathan is a prolific researcher with notable contributions in journal papers and publications. His research papers, including "Urban Transport Planning in India: A Polycentric Governance System" and "Understanding Urban Transportation in India as a Polycentric System," reflect his in-depth understanding of the complex dynamics of urban transport. Additionally, he has authored publications on corporate social responsibility, gender equality in urban planning, and the policy and benefits of electric buses in India.

Beyond his academic and research pursuits, Dr. Vivek Vaidyanathan actively contributes as a blogger for Bengaluru Citizens Matters, an online blog. His commitment to the field of urban transport policy is evident in his diverse and impactful contributions, making him a valuable member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Urban Transport Infrastructure Magazine since November 23, 2018, until November 22, 2021.
