Mr. MC Chauhan boasts a distinguished career spanning over 40 years within the Indian Railways, one of the world's largest railway networks, employing 1.3 million individuals. His extensive expertise encompasses various facets, including management, railway operations, and the planning and execution of major infrastructural projects, contributing significantly to capacity expansion, metro and EMU train services, technology induction, strategic policy planning, financial management, and innovative problem-solving.
In his tenure as General Manager in various significant positions, such as at North Central Railway (NCR) and Metro Railway, Kolkata, he played pivotal roles in executing pivotal projects. Notably, Mr. Chauhan led the completion of capacity expansion projects, doubling/tripling/quadrupling railway lines and electrifying significant route kilometers in NCR. His leadership was instrumental in the construction of the groundbreaking East-West Metro Corridor in Kolkata, a project passing beneath the Hooghly River and setting a national precedent.
A key contributor to significant legislative changes, Mr. Chauhan proposed modifications to the Electricity Act 2003, facilitating Railways in establishing captive power plants. This initiative led to considerable reductions in traction tariffs and annual savings exceeding Rs 20,000 million in traction energy bills.
Educationally, he holds a B. Tech. in Electrical Engineering and is a Fellow Member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (formerly IEE, UK). His diverse training includes an Advanced Leadership Programme for General Managers from Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University, USA, and specialized programs in project management, technology inspection, and railway modernization from global institutions.
Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. MC Chauhan has earned numerous accolades and awards, including the Railway Minister’s Cup for Best All-Round Improvement, the Second Prize at “Rail Vikas Shivir 2016” awarded by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Railway Innovation Award from the Ministry of Railways, and a Gold Medal from the Principal, Railway Staff College, Vadodara. These recognitions highlight his dedication, outstanding contributions, and exceptional service to the railway sector, illustrating his commitment to excellence and innovation.
