Sudhanshu Mani, an esteemed retired officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), holds a rich legacy of thirty-seven years in various roles within the Indian Railways. His illustrious career encompasses extensive experience in Projects, Railway Operations, R&D, Technology, and Rolling Stock Designs. Sudhanshu Mani's career trajectory reached its pinnacle as the General Manager of Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, the world's largest railway coach-building factory. Notably, he served as the senior-most representative of Indian Railways outside India.
Commencing his journey in 1976, Sudhanshu Mani joined Indian Railways as a trainee at the Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Jamalpur. Over the years, he undertook pivotal roles, including Chief Design Engineer at Diesel Locomotive Works and Director/Executive Director of Motive Power at Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO). His expertise extended to locomotive technology projects both internationally and domestically, collaborating with renowned players like Siemens, Alstom, EMD, Bombardier, ABB, and Bosch.
Sudhanshu Mani played a crucial role in the development of significant projects, including the indigenous Train 18, a 180/160 km/h train set, and the Tejas rake, a modern 180/160 km/h train. His leadership in collaborative projects, such as the 5500 hp locomotive with EMD/USA, showcased his unmatched experience in Rolling Stock engineering and technology on the Indian Railways.
Educationally, Sudhanshu Mani is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, having undergone specialized training as a Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA), a premium program for class-I Railway Officers. His leadership and contributions were recognized through numerous awards and honors, including the Transformation and Environment award in 2017-18.
Beyond his technical prowess, Sudhanshu Mani's passion for art and railways led to the initiation of the Art movement, Safar, in Bangalore in 2011.
